Mamelodi Sundowns saw off Cape Town City to register a 2-0 win in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) showdown at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Tashreeq Matthews scored in the first half before Iqraam Rayners doubled the lead in the second half.
Meanwhile, after being frustrated for slightly more than half an hour, Masandawana finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Matthews scored with an assist from Iqraam Rayners. The duo was also involved in Sundowns' second goal against Richards Bay last time out.
The scoreline at halftime would have read differently had Darren Keet not made saves earlier on to deny Aubrey Modiba and Thapelo Morena in the 17th and 37th minutes, respectively.
There were calls for a penalty from the Sundowns side when Nathan Idumba appeared to have tripped Lucas Ribeiro in the 55th-minute area inside the penalty, but the referee dismissed the appeals.
Downs doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Rayners scored with an assist from Arthur Sales.
Sundowns now lead with 61 points, while Cape Town City remain at the bottom with 23 points.
This means Kaizer Chiefs, who are placed ninth in the standings, are safe from finishing 15th and playing in the PSL Promotion/Relegation playoffs.
