    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi has criticized the media when questioned about Kaizer Chiefs' poor record in 2024, asserting that he cannot account for what the previous coaches did during their time at the club.

The Tunisian coach assumed control of Amakhosi in July of this year, succeeding interim coach Cavin Johnson, who guided the team to a tenth-place finish in the PSL table last season.

Amakhosi won seven matches across all competitions in 2024, two of which occurred while Johnson was at the helm and five achieved under the guidance of Nabi.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"Bro, honestly, why don’t you accept that I came for the project? Why do you media refuse that? I give you a question, why do you refuse? Because it is not good for you, the media," Nabi said when asked about Chiefs' poor record.

"You need (write to get) reaction from people. If the coach talks about the process for building the team, don’t provoke a reaction from the fans and the business for yourself, this is not good.

"You push me only the games – ‘why you are winning one’? I come for the project, guys. I trust in my project with Kaizer Chiefs, I know you don’t like to listen to this. Because why? Before I came, you listened to me when I spoke about building, building. You don’t like listening to talks of building. But I come to build, you want that or you don’t want that. You understand me?" Asked the former AC Leopards coach.

"Because if you talk about another response like this, it’s like I’m not the right coach. Listen to me guys, I talked to you in June and in September, I came to build this season. We need steps and all steps have objectives, evaluation, and scientific. Now, ‘I want to win all the games," he added.

"It’s not correct like that. We believe in this project and we are going to do everything to make it happen, to make it a success.  Because if you say seven games won in the whole year and they [the club] have coached before, I don’t think we have to respond to those who were here before us."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi has persistently urged Chiefs' management to acquire high-quality players to change the club's unpleasant situation.

The Soweto giants have been linked with Polokwane City and Bafana Bafana star Oswin Appollis, Al Ahly’s Percy Tau, and Pyramids' Fiston Mayele, amongst others.

It remains to be seen whether the Amakhosi management will allocate the funds for Nabi to sign the players he specifically needs.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The year 2025 will be Nabi's opportunity to demonstrate his skills and capability to secure victories, as he aims to alter the club's future positively.

Chiefs' first match in the upcoming year will be a league encounter against Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium on January 5, 2025.
