    WHAT HAPPENED?

Gaston Sirino rose from the bench to score for Kaizer Chiefs in Tuesday's 1-0 Premier Soccer League victory over Richards Bay at FNB Stadium.

It was a match in which the Uruguayan-South African injected some fresh energy when he came on in the second half.

Former Amakhosi winger Junior Khanye was impressed by Sirino and likened him to Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“That was a world-class goal,” said Khanye as per iDiski Times

“We need to complement that goal; the Chiefs that I know scores like this, and you need star players.

“Sirino is a star, but I don’t think his mindset is the right one and another thing could be playing with players who are not at your standard you end up looking ordinary because Sirino is a special player. One of the best international players imported to South Africa," added the former South Africa Junior international.

“Sirino, like [Lucas] Ribeiro, is on another level but also playing for a team that doesn’t challenge for trophies and in the league always out of the picture and sometimes even out of the top eight, you are obviously going to be an ordinary player.

“Sirino is a special player, I mean look at the goal he scored and last season he scored a similar goal.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the three games Chiefs have played so far this season, Sirino has started just one match while coming on as a substitute twice.

By scoring on Tuesday, he might have raised his hand that he deserves to start more games.

That could see him being rewarded by the coaches, also as one of the experienced players in the team.

While Khanye has questioned Sirino's attitude, Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef differs.

"I think Sirino, when we came back in the season, he came back with a very good attitude and really good performance," said Ben Youssef as per KickOff.

"We also discussed with him about his idea about what he thinks about this season. He is so excited about this season."

    WHAT NEXT FOR SIRINO?

Up next for Amakhosi is the hosting of Mamelodi Sundowns on August 27 as the Soweto giants look to make it four PSL wins in a row.

After impressing against Richards Bay, Sirino is likely to start against his former club Masandawana.
