OFFICIAL: Orlando Pirates announce reported R10 million-signing's shock departure just six months after joining Soweto giants

After six months with Orlando Pirates, 23-year-old Gilberto is set to return to his native country on loan. Despite signing a three-year deal, he has struggled to settle under coach José Riveiro and will now aim to regain form back home.

The Buccaneers reportedly paid R10 million when they purchased him from Petro de Luanda.

Gilberto will return to the Girabola, joining the log leaders in his home country. With almost two-and-a-half years remaining on his Pirates contract, the loan spell could help him regain his form and return to the Buccaneers as a stronger contributor.

With one trophy (MTN 8), to his name and 12 appearances across all competitions, he has scored one goal, though its validity is debated as some have credited it to Tshegofatso Mabasa following a recent match against Al Ahly. Strong competition on the wings, particularly from the in-form Relebohile Mofokeng, left him unable to secure a regular spot in the lineup.

Pirates face Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup, with the goal of securing their second domestic trophy of the season.
