    WHAT HAPPENED?

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has revealed that one of his top players would prefer a move to Europe than sign for any other Premier Soccer League club.

Barker said he is ready to help Devin Titus achieve his dream either at the end of the 2025/26 season or in the subsequent campaign.

    WHAT BARKER SAID

“Devin Titus is our player; he’s got ambitions to go play in Europe only,” Barker told the press on Thursday.

“He doesn’t have ambitions to play locally for any team. So, he wants to play in Europe; hopefully, if he continues doing what he does, we can help him achieve that dream, if not at the end of this season, then the next season to come.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The PSL big three – Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns – have always attracted shining stars from their opponents in the top flight.

But for Titus, as revealed by his coach, his ambition is different; he would rather play in Europe than sign for the PSL heavyweights.

Stellenbosch have in the recent past sold a number of its players to Sundowns, and they are Iqraam Rayners, Jayden Adams, and Fawaaz Basadien, while Deano Van Rooyen signed for the Bucs. However, this is not a path Titus would want to follow.

Titus, at one time, was also linked with a move to either Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TITUS?

He scored in their victory against Sekhukhune United, where Stellies grabbed a 2-0 MTN8 first-leg semi-final win. He also provided an assist for Sanele Barns, who scored a goal during their quarter-final 3-2 win over AmaZulu.

Titus is also expected to be a key player for the Maroons when they tackle Sekhukhune United in the return leg of the MTN8 semi-final.

The forward has also been included in Hugo Broos' provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
