    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has picked Sekhukhune United as the club that plays the best football in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

According to Broos, the big three - Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns - are not at their best levels so far.

    WHAT BROOS SAID

"For the moment, the level is a little bit less than last year. There are several reasons. You take, for example, Pirates. They have new players, and that needs time. Sundowns, for the moment, Mudau is not playing," Broos said, as per Soccer Laduma.

"There is a disagreement between him and the team. Ribeiro, there is a problem, so I think they are struggling a little bit with that. The Chiefs are better than last year, but still not at a level you expect from a top team. I think in a few weeks it will be better. I think the level has to be increased," Broos added.

"For me, from what I've seen till now, Sekhukhune play the best football. They play good football, have good rhythm, and make nice combinations. I think they are on a good way."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pirates had a faulty start to the new season, losing two opening games against Sekhukhune and Marumo Gallants. However, since then, Bucs have looked a strong side, beating Stellenbosch and Orbit College for back-to-back victories.

They have also demonstrated determination in the MTN8, reaching the final at the expense of Sundowns.

Downs, on the other hand, have had both off-pitch and on-pitch issues; the former involves Lucas Ribeiro's transfer saga and Khuliso Mudau's reported unresolved contract case.

On the pitch, they have not fared better; they were eliminated from the MTN8 by Pirates and are third on the PSL table with just two wins.

Chiefs are unbeaten after four games, and the only instance they dropped points was when they registered a 0-0 draw against Masandawana.

Sekhukhune, the best team so far according to Broos, lead courtesy of a superior goal difference, as they have the same number of points - 10 - as Chiefs.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SEKHUKHUNE?

As the season gathers speed, fans, pundits, and rival clubs are eagerly waiting to see whether Babina Noko can keep their momentum going or they will slow down and drop out of the title race.

As for Broos, he has duties to attend to: World Cup qualifiers when Bafana will take on Lesotho and Nigeria on September 5 and 9, 2025, respectively.
