    WHAT HAPPENED?

Wydad Athletic Club coach Rhulani Mokwena has given the latest update regarding Bongani Zungu as he edges closer to joining the team.

The experienced midfielder has been training with the Red Castle for more than a week now as he is hoping to secure a contract under his former trainer.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

"Bongani Zungu is not ready yet. He needs the whole pre-season. So, we are trying to catch up a little bit with him and make sure that he is physically ready," Mokwena told the media, per iDiski Times

"He is training with us and he is doing well. Zungu is a very good player and a great human being. He helps us because he speaks English, French and Portuguese.

"He played in Portugal, so he can talk a little bit with Pedrinho in French, he can talk a little bit to Audori in Portuguese, he can talk with the rest of his teammates in French because he played in Ligue 1 for Amiens and of course, he speaks English," he added.

"We understand why we brought him and hopefully he will be ready. This is a very difficult league, and he will have to adjust physically."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Zungu has been unattached since parting ways with Sundowns at the end of the 2023-24 season. In addition, Mokwena had also left the Brazilians just weeks after Zungu's departure.

On the other hand, the 37-year-old mentor's Wydad AC moved to second place in the Botola Pro League after beating SC Chabab Mohammédia 3-2 on Saturday.
