  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs were expected to have a better season after the appointment of coach Nasreddine Nabi at the beginning of the campaign.

The signing of some experienced players like Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Thabo Cele, Glody Lilepo and Tashreeq Morris - among others, was meant to bring the winning experience and steel.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to the January transfer window, Chiefs were eliminated from the Carling Knockout in the quarter-final phase

They failed to get much-needed consistency in the Premier Soccer League, prompting the management to bring in some new faces.

Despite the reinforcements, Amakhosi have still failed to get positive results regularly on the pitch.

Ahead of this weekend's PSL game against TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, midfielders Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Thabo Cele have opened up about the club's struggles.

  • WHAT NGCOBO SAID

"At the moment, everyone is frustrated," the midfielder stated ahead of this weekend's outing.

"From the beginning of the season, we've lacked that ability to control games even when it's 0-0 or 1-1 and we're playing better than the opponent, we always struggle to maintain the momentum and the tempo; we tend to get frustrated and we start rushing and then we lose our games like that," Ngcobo concluded.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

Cele concedes the Glamour Boys shouldn't even be struggling to get into the top eight.

"We're giving the games away ourselves...it's not the opponents that give us problems [but] it's just us. We tend to lose control very easily, and it's something that's frustrating," the South Africa international stated.

"For Chiefs to be sitting where we're sitting, it's not nice; it is a crisis, you can call it a crisis because even us as a team we know that we can do way better.

"With the coach, it's a message that's always there to say, 'control, control', so that we can create more chances and be calm at the back to win games.

"When you lose control of the game, you find yourself making silly mistakes. We must improve on the control aspect so that we can be organised when we lose the ball," Cele concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Since beating Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final, Chiefs have not won their last three games in the PSL.

The Glamour Boys have a draw and two losses, which puts them under pressure to win on Saturday against the fourth-placed Rockets.
