    WHAT HAPPENED?

Polokwane City defender Bulelani Nikani beat his own goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga while trying to block Devin Titus' effort to give Stellenbosch the lead 12 minutes into the match.

Then in the 37th minute, Titus' shot struck the post before nestling into the back of the net to double the Cape Winelands' side's advantage.

The 2-0 win saw Stellenbosch advance to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup, eliminating Rise and Shine.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Stellenbosch are right on course to reach the final of the Nedbank Cup to add to their trophy cabinet last season's Carling Knockout and dethrone reigning champions Orlando Pirates

But they would be hoping their focus on the Premier Soccer League campaign and Caf Confederation Cup will not affect them in the Nedbank Cup.

On the other hand, it is the end of the road for Polokwane City who are third on the PSL standings and would be looking to maintain that position.

    WHAT NEXT?

Stellenbosch now switch focus to their PSL campaign and they visit in-form TS Galaxy next Tuesday.

On the same evening, Polokwane City host Magesi FC in a Limpopo Derby as they seek to recover from Thursday's setback.
