    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi was appointed as Kaizer Chiefs coach at the beginning of the 2024-25 season after a year with the Botola Pro League outfit, AS FAR Rabat.

It was a critical move by the Glamour Boys to save their club after their 10th-place finish in the previous Premier Soccer League campaign.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In his debut season in Mzansi football, Nabi helped end Amakhosi's trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.

However, he failed to deliver as expected in the Premier Soccer League, where the Glamour Boys finished 10th with just 32 points from the 28 games played.

Nabi wants to make it right this season, explaining the signings he intends to make.

Nevertheless, that is not enough to succeed, according to a former Chiefs player, Robson Muchichwa.

    WHAT MUCHICHWA SAID

"Coach Nabi needs to be strong. If you hire a coach only to control them, then you aren’t going to make progress as a club," he told SNL24.

"You should always seek a coach who cannot easily be controlled. They must allow Nabi the opportunity to implement his vision. If he fails, we will all acknowledge that failure.

"Let’s not forget that while Nabi won a cup, he also finished outside the top eight, and Kaizer Chiefs is a top-eight club," Muchichwa continued.

"He needs to come up with fresh ideas to keep the dressing room motivated.

"He must not let anyone dictate his team or his style of play. If someone is controlling you, it’s likely because you're not doing something right.

"Nabi should stay true to his strengths and not change what made him successful just to appease someone else. He must adhere to his beliefs. If he gets fired, it should be for following his own football philosophy, not due to outside influences," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Nabi has delivered in most of the clubs he has coached, the latest ones being Young Africans SC of Tanzania and the Botola Pro League outfit.

The 59-year-old will want his record to continue in Mzansi but with the Soweto giants, who are desperate to make it after a decade-long struggle.
