    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have key players like Tashreeq Morris, Rushwin Dortley, Edson Castillo, Reeve Frosler and Njabulo Blom nursing injuries.

They have been joined by Thabo Cele who lasted 45 minutes in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Golden Arrows in Durban.

Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi has painted a grim picture of their injury situation as they struggle for consistency.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“I prefer to comment on the general performance of the team and not individual players,” Nabi told reporters.

“I think we have been unlucky with the injuries we have had. Right now our right-back [Reeve Frosler] and our left centre-back [Rushwin Dortley], Thabo Cele and Tashreeq Morris, who are our latest additions, are out injured.

"We feel that it’s a lot to take, but we have to keep our energy positive.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs' injury situation has worsened at a critical time of their season where Nabi needs his key players.

With Amakhosi having failed to win their past three PSL games and risking finishing the season out of the top eight for a second season running, they are in a desperate corner.

However, such a crisis might be a wake-up call for Nabi to build a huge squad laden with quality players and have the rich in-depth enjoyed by their traditional rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Amakhosi are left with seven PSL games to go before their campaign ends and it remains to be seen who will recover to finish the season.

But for now, their focus is on preparing to host TS Galaxy next Saturday.
