    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi joined Kaizer Chiefs before the start of the current season tasked with helping the Soweto giants end a 10-year trophy drought.

But Amakhosi have been struggling for consistency and Nabi admits they are far from an outfit he wishes to see.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"We still have a lot of work to do... a long road to travel. We are not even half the team we dream of but the biggest certainty is that we're heading in the right direction," Nabi said as per Sowetan Live.

"If we can improve on those little things and have control of the game for the whole 90 minutes and plus [then we can be the team we dreams of].

"We need to be the team that decides the tempo of the game as to when we need to to accelerate and when we need to slow things down, then we will be consistent."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi's remarks could be justified by the fact that Chiefs have 17 points fewer than Premier Soccer League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, with Amakhosi having reached the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, it is their most realistic chance of ending the season with some silverware.

Should they win the Nedbank Cup, Nabi will be a Soweto cult hero, having succeeded where the likes of Steve Komphela, Gavin Hunt and Ernst Middendorp failed.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

Chiefs have not lost in their last three games across all competitions and that could serve as a morale booster as they prepare to host SuperSport United on Tuesday.

Victory would be crucial for the sixth-placed Soweto giants to get into the top four on the PSL table.
