    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi took time out to explain why he left captain Yusuf Maart out of his starting XI for Saturday's PSL clash against SuperSport United.

The Glamour suffered their second defeat in the league after a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Tshwane outfit at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

During the game, Maart replaced Edson Castillo, who got injured in the first half while Blom came in at the later stages.

Nabi has shared why the club's captain was dropped on the weekend and the reason why Blom is getting a few minutes during matches.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"We believe that Yusuf Maart has been playing since the beginning of the league and in the cup games and we thought that today was a good game to make him rest," Nabi told the media.

"We thought of giving a chance to Castillo to start the game because against (Mamelodi) Sundowns he was good and the 20 minutes that he played against SuperSport in the last game was good. We wanted to give him that continuity.

"About (Njabulo Blom, it’s a matter of fitness conditions, which has been improving since he arrived," added the Tunisian mentor.

"You can even see that he is starting to pick up. He is a player that we believe can help because of his experience and everything."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Nabi, Maart has so far played five games and scored one goal in all competitions while Blom featured three times in the league.

The Glamour Boys' skipper competes for the midfield position with Castillo, and he can also play the same position as Blom and Samkelo Zwane.

Amakhosi have so far won two matches and lost twice in the four games they have played so far.

    WHAT NEXT?

With Castillo now out injured, Maart is expected to retain his position going forward as he seeks to improve on his game.

Chiefs will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways when they face off against in-form Magesi FC on Wednesday.
