    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates recently confirmed the exit of Zakhele Lepasa, who was developed there.

The 28-year-old struggled with injuries last season and played no part as the Soweto giants finished second in the Premier Soccer League, as Bucs finished second, and reached the semi-final of the Caf Champions League.

He was overlooked as Bucs camped in Spain for pre-season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite his struggles at the club level, Lepasa has been included in the Bafana Bafana squad that is set to take part in the CHAN competition starting on Saturday, August 2.

This will be a massive platform for the striker to underline his worth and make Orlando Pirates regret the decision to release him.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi has urged Kaizer Chiefs to sign the striker, insisting he will add value.

Amakhosi are understood to be in the market for a striker who will help Flavio Silva, recently signed to sharpen the team's attack.

    WHAT TSOTETSI SAID

“Lepasa is one of the quality strikers, and he did well for Pirates, when he was given a chance," he told Soccer Laduma.

"He is not a reject from Pirates. He did not get enough game time, and sometimes when you are out, you find that the team gels, and it’s difficult for you to break into the team after being sidelined with injury.

"But I see he has recovered, and because Chiefs have not been able to get [Khanyisa] Mayo for now, I think Lepasa has something to give," Tsotetsi added.

"If he can be given a chance at Chiefs, I think he can do well and revive his career.

“Also, it depends on what type of striker coach Nabi would want. We will have to wait and see," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Lepasa scored 10 goals in 23 matches he played for Pirates in the 2023/24 season, and that shows he has a lot to offer.

The Bafana Bafana international will surely add quality to any team that will get his services ahead of the new season.
