    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi joined Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the just-ended season and found the club having already signed left-back Bongani Sam whom he never used.

But other players like Rushwin Dortley, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, Glody Lilepo, Thabo Cele and Tasheeq Morris were brought in by Nabi, although the latter struggled both for form and with injury.

Former Chiefs star Daniel Matsau believes Nabi should be handed full charge of transfers ahead of next season to correct matters after the Soweto giants finished the Premier Soccer League campaign outside the top half of the table for the second season running.

    WHAT MATSAU SAID

"It was disappointing to see Chiefs not qualify for the top eight," Matsau told KickOff.

"I hope the management grants the coach more time, although I know it won’t be easy to secure all the players he desires.

"Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to attract the players they want for too many years now. It’s better for a coach to fail with the players he personally recommended than to continue with an unsettled lineup.

"He has been trying to find a stable starting eleven by giving every player on the roster a chance."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs fans would be monitoring Nabi with critical eyes to see if he would be able to sign quality players.

The Soweto giants are in need of men who would be able to turn around the fortunes of the club, especially in a challenging fight for the PSL title.

Nabi has already hinted at going big in the market after paying little attention to some key reserve team players like Sihle Tati and captain Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, who are reportedly on their way to TS Galaxy.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

For now, Nabi seems to be assured of being in charge of Amakhosi next season.

He is already busy trying to build a squad for next term and was spotted with Chiefs' head of scouting and recruitment Tera Maliwa in Tanzania last week, where he reportedly held talks with Azam midfielder Feisal Salum.
