    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad preparing for the Cosafa Cup tournament.

The reasons why the Amakhosi custodian pulled out of the squad are yet to be stated, and he has since been replaced by Chippa United's Darren Johnson.

Chiefs development coach Vela Khumalo will be in charge of Bafana and has spelt out his team's ambitions.

    WHAT KHUMALO SAID

"We need to show that we are playing at home, we promise to play good football, but most importantly, we need to win the game. We want to see ourselves going into the semifinals, that’s the most important thing," Khumalo told Safa media.

“I’m happy with the players because they look sharp, and I was not expecting them to look as sharp as they do as they have been in recess for two weeks. But we are in good shape and in a good space as we look forward to the next session.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs players have been struggling to get into the Bafana first team, but they dominate the Cosafa Cup squad.

With Bvuma withdrawing, this would have been a good opportunity for him to prove to coach Hugo Broos that he is national team material.

This comes after his inclusion drew some questions following an inconsistent season in which he conceded 21 goals in 19 Premier Soccer League matches.
