BackpageMiguel Cardoso shares latest on Lebo Mothiba ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns' Club World Cup game against Fluminense - 'When you drive in high speed, possibility of an accident is bigger'
WHAT HAPPENED?
Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns play Fluminense in the Fifa Club World Cup, hoping to secure maximum points to advance.
Masandawana have three points from two games, one less than the South American outfit, who currently lead the pool.
Stakes are high for either side, explaining why coaches would want to get their best players on the pitch.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Lebo Mothiba has been influential for Masandawana despite not starting any of the two games played in Group F.
Against Borussia Dortmund, the 29-year-old found the back of the net despite his team losing 4-3, but he did not finish the game well, as anticipated.
The Bafana Bafana international pulled a muscle, which makes him a doubt for the Wednesday outing.
Coach Miguel Cardoso has now shared the latest regarding the condition of his attacker.

“I think everyone knows the quality of Lebo Mothiba as a player, you saw his impact in both matches, how he impacted the game, obviously for a player who had such a bad moment in terms of knee injuries, and came to the club to try and get to his best condition, it’s a player who invested a lot in,” he said in his pre-match interview.
“When I entered the stadium, I saw the F1 track around here. I was thinking that when you drive at high speed, the possibility of having an accident is higher, and these players who play at high speed, sometimes accidents can happen," Cardoso added.
“We don’t expect the thing with Mothiba to be a big thing, it’s not a big thing, let’s see if he can play the match or not; not yet clear that he can’t play.
“But even if he cannot, it won’t be a big thing. It’s just that the period of time between matches is so small that even a small thing can affect the fact that you can’t play.
"We’re waiting for the last assessment, last tests, and then we will see if he can play," he concluded.

Already, Wydad Athletic Club, Esperance, and Al Ahly have been eliminated from the competition, leaving Sundowns as the only teams with hope.
Masandawana have a massive chance to set history by becoming the only team from the continent to advance to the knockout phase in the first edition of the expanded Club World Cup.
