    WHAT HAPPENED?

In his last season at Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Rhulani Mokwena signed Thembinkosi Lorch from Orlando Pirates.

The now 38-year-old felt 'Nyoso' would add value to the club, and help them meet their objectives domestically and internationally.

However, Mokwena was dismissed a few months later, and Lorch was overlooked by the new coaches at Masandawana.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

When Mokwena was confirmed as Wydad Casablanca coach, he signed Lorch on loan, convinced he would help his team deliver.

Lorch underlined his worth at the club, and his real quality was seen in the FIFA Club World Cup recently held in the United States, which prompted the Botola Pro League side to consider making his deal permanent.

Speculations have it that Masandawana have overpriced the attacker, which led to the pull-out of Wydad.

When asked about Lorch's future, coach Miguel Cardoso said it was not his mandate to determine the same.

    WHAT CARDOSO SAID

“I hear sometimes people saying, I don’t listen, I don’t really read the blogs or the fans, but sometimes my assistants bring me some things, and it’s important we clarify that in Sundowns it’s not the coach that chooses the players,” the former Esperance coach told the media.

“I don’t choose the players that enter the team. The players in Mamelodi Sundowns are chosen by the coach, the sports director, the board, and the President and the Chairman, for sure. So that’s how players come to the club.

“It’s not up to me to say ‘I want that one, and if you don’t bring him, I’m not happy. I will cry here’. I don’t make this kind of thing. So, it’s not the way we work," Cardoso added.

“Regarding Lorch, like Lucas [Ribeiro], like Peter [Shalulile], like [Khuliso] Mudau, I’m not going to discuss it here.

"But Lorch is a situation that comes from the past and also will be addressed and solved by the club.

“And in proper time, you’ll have information that it will be public, considering he is not here for sure," he concluded.
