    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the semi final to set up a Nedbank Cup final with old rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Buccaneers, who are the defending champions, beat Marumo Gallants to book their spot.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Glamour Boys have almost gone for 10 years without tasting silverware, as opposed to Pirates and Sundowns who have stacked the trophies in their cabinets in recent times.

It will not be easy against Bucs, who are hoping to win their third Nedbank title in as many seasons.

Former Amakhosi defender Patrick Mayo has shared his reasons on why coach Nasreddine Nabi's men should win the competition.

    WHAT MAYO SAID

"It is very important for Chiefs to win a trophy after 10 years, otherwise we'll end up being the laughing stock [of SA football] if we're not going to win this Nedbank Cup on the 10th of May," he opend up as quoted by SABC Sport.

"In terms of coach Nabi, winning the trophy will buy him more time and appease the supporters. So, it's very important for him to win it to relieve some pressure."

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The 51-year-old has further commented on the current squad.

"It's always very painful because whenever I meet people, they always talk about Chiefs. [Saying] No, you should come back and play for Chiefs," he continued.

"The players there now don't deserve to wear the jersey. So it's not easy being reminded that the club you played for used to win trophies.

"He just needs to add to the players we already have. Some of the teams competing against us have got depth, and we don't have that. If so and so is injured, we struggle a lot. I don't see any reason to make any changes," Mayo concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs have to deliver in both the Premier Soccer League and the Nedbank Cup.

They can't win the PSL title, but they should strive to finish in the top eight and qualify for the MTN8.

After playing Marumo Gallants this weekend in PSL, Chiefs face Pirates on May 3 in their second league meeting at the FNB Stadium, just one week before they meet in the Nedbank Cup final.

Bucs won their only previous meeting of the season by a solitary goal.
