Durban City hosted former Nedbank Cup winners at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, battling for a spot in the semi-finals.

Gallants won 4-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw against the NFD side and progressed to the semi-finals.

    THE MVP

Kagiso Mlambo made crucial saves for the Bloemfontein side, keeping them in the cup and securing their spot in the last four. He saved a key penalty for his team and has performed well since stepping in for the injured Washington Arubi.

    THE BIG LOSER

Coach Simo Dlala had a great run in the Cup of Dreams, but reality has set in as his team is now knocked out of the competition. Despite their exit, his side showcased their ability to compete at a high level. Now, he can shift his focus to the fight for promotion.

Their impressive performances against TS Galaxy and pushing Gallants to extra time prove their potential. These displays give him confidence in what his team can achieve if they secure promotion

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Gallants have impressed in the Nedbank Cup, reaching the last four, but their league form has not matched their cup performances. They currently sit 14th with 19 points and have 10 PSL games remaining.

Their struggles led to a coaching change, with Dan Malesela departing and Abdelslam Ouaddou taking over. Ouaddou had a strong start as he aims to turn the club’s fortunes around. Up next, they face Sekhukhune United, who also made a coaching change by parting ways with Lehlohonolo Seema.
