    WHAT HAPPENED?

Tanzania Premier League giants Simba SC are expected to sign Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana centre-back Rushine de Reuck.

De Reuck is set for the surprise move that will see him join former Orlando Pirates coach Davids Fadlu, who is in charge of the Tanzanian side.

  • WHAT IS MORE

The Premier Soccer League defending champions are in the process of terminating De Reuck's contract, which has 12 months left, according to a source who spoke with GOAL.

The defender, who was on loan at Maccabi Petah Tikva for the second half of last season, joined Masandawana from Maritzburg United, where he shone and was named the PSL Defender of the Season then.

De Reuck is expected to join the list of those who have left the Tswane giants. Rivaldo Coetzee, Lebohang Maboe, Sipho Mbule, Lucas Suarez, Sifiso Ngobeni, Thabang Sibanyoni, and Sanele Tshabalala had already left the Brazilians.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Bafana defender is Simba's target to fill the void left by Cameroonian defender Che Malone, who has been linked to Algeria's USM Alger.

Malone is among the players who have left Wekundu wa Msimbazi so far after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. Debora Fernandes Mavambo, Kelvin Kijili, Augustine Okejepha, Hussein Kazi, Valentin Nouma, Mohammed Hussein, Aishi Manula, and Fabrice Ngoma have so far left the Dar es Salaam-based titans.

The several departures from the Tanzanian heavyweights have left the fans with fears that their club cannot go toe-to-toe in the league with Yanga SC, who are expected to maintain the core of their title-defending squad.

When the deal is finally confirmed, De Reuck and Davids will now work together for the second time after such a stint at Maritzburg.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DE REUCK?

As Simba rebuild once again, fans will be waiting to see whether the South African defender and other new signings represent a positive renaissance of their club.

Last season, Simba surrendered the league title to their arch-rivals, and the 2-1 loss late in the season marked a fifth consecutive defeat at the hands of Yanga.
