    WHAT HAPPENED?

Defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns continued their run to the eighth consecutive crown with a massive win on Wednesday night.

They defeated Sekhukhune United 4-2 at the Old Peter Mokhaba Stadium in Polokwane to open a 15-point gap on top of the table ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates who have four matches at hand.

  • CARDOSO HAPPY TO GET PAST DIFFICULT SEKHUKHUNE UNITED

Mamelodi Sundowns conceded Babina Noko were a worthy opponent despite his team's win.

“A very difficult match, very difficult context. It was good that in the right moments we scored, that gave us obviously an emotional advantage. But also, I think we started the game very well," the former Esperance coach told the media.

“We controlled very well the match, which allowed us to gain a good advantage. Anyway, it was difficult to react to the style of game that Sekhukhune put it. They just played long balls, long balls, aggressive.

“So, you are always trying to play football and build from the back. A quite difficult context. Anyway, respect for respect for my players they did their best and obviously they deserved to win."

    CARDOSO UNHAPPY WITH 'INSANE' SCHEDULE

Masandawana have been playing matches every three days or so. It is something that is not amusing to the tactician and his players.

“I can only repeat it, it’s absolutely insane what’s happening to Sundowns,” Cardoso added.

“The schedule is insane, it’s not normal. It doesn’t respect the human being and I think it should be fought and well-considered because I don’t know how it’s possible.

“But we keep alive, we struggle and we continue pushing forward for sure.”

FEBRUARY ON THE LIMELIGHT AFTER CONCEDING STUPID GOAL

In the absence of the injured Ronwen Williams and the suspended Denis Onyango, Jody February started between the posts. However, he conceded a questionable second goal and the Portuguese tactician took note of that.

“Unfortunately we suffered this stupid second goal,” he added.

“It was not my plan. At this moment, there is no need for this. Overconfidence sometimes makes you make mistakes.

“In that moment I was preparing two substitutions to replace two players and I could not do them.

“I should not have pushed the players to such limits but we needed to win [on Wednesday] and then we think about tomorrow," Cardoso concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

The next stop for Sundowns will be against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane.

It will be the third time the two teams are meeting this season across all competitions.

Masandawana have won the initial two meetings and Amakhosi will be hoping to get something from the fixture.
