    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially clinched the PSL title with one game to spare after a dominant 3-0 victory over Chippa United in East London. Iqraam Rayners continued his excellent form by netting his 14th goal of the season, while Arthur Sales bagged a brace to seal the result.

The win marked Sundowns’ eighth consecutive league title, reinforcing their dominance in South African football. Captain Themba Zwane, speaking to GOAL, expressed his joy at lifting yet another trophy in his decorated career.

However, he was especially happy for the younger players experiencing league success for the first time.

Zwane emphasised the importance of staying united as a team and maintaining focus going forward.

He also made it clear that winning the Caf Champions League is now their biggest priority. With the league title secured, Sundowns shift their attention to continental glory.

    WHAT ZWANE SAID

"I have lost count of how many league titles I have won, and I'm happy, especially for the young ones that are going to get the chance to lift a trophy. I mean, we had a lot to do this season, but we managed to push ourselves. Stay as a team and keep on going," said Zwane after beating Chippa United to win the league.

Obviously, we are more than ready for the final of the Champions League. We want it so badly. We want to create history together. We know how important it is for the team to have a second star. The trophy is very important for the whole nation."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With domestic business now settled, head coach Miguel Cardoso can fully turn his focus to the upcoming Caf Champions League final. Despite having one league match remaining, Sundowns are expected to rotate the squad and rest key players.

Cardoso will use this time to fine-tune tactics and manage fitness levels ahead of the crucial first leg. The Champions League title has eluded Sundowns for years, and winning it would add a second star to their badge. The pressure is on, but the belief in the squad is strong.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

Next up for Masandawana is a league clash against Magesi, the team that shocked them in the Carling Knockout Cup final earlier this season. The match offers a chance for redemption and a final tune-up before continental duties. It could also be used to give fringe players a run while key stars recover.
