'Malibongwe Khoza should leave Mamelodi Sundowns; South Africa is not Nigeria; What a scandal Algeria brought the best players but could not beat the Bafana Bafana C team! Molefi Ntseki was asleep' - Fans

South Africa started their African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a 1-1 draw against Algeria in a Group C game held at Kampala's Mandela National Stadium on Friday.

Algeria had already started their campaign with a 3-0 win over Uganda and, on paper, looked favourites to beat Bafana Bafana's makeshift squad. While the North Africans brought to CHAN top players from Ligue 1, most of the squad members for South Africa are free agents or fringe players at their clubs.

Algeria scored the opener through Abdennour Belhocini, just before the break, before Thabiso Kutumela equalised.

After the draw, GOAL takes a look at how the fans reacted, with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki guiding his charges to a hard-fought draw, with Mamelodi Sundowns' Malibongwe Khoza impressing.

Khoza needs to leave Sundowns. This guy is too good to be chilling on the bench for Kekana - ȶ̶@̶2̶ʐ̶

    Keegan should not start

A draw is not that bad, but it could've been prevented easily. Why was Makaringe brought on so late? Next game, Keegan (Dolly) shouldn't start in midfield - Esely

    Mzansi not Nigeria

South Africa is not Nigeria. We have a professional league, and we believe in our local boys - Thabiso Monnakhotla

    Poor plan by Ntseki

Poor game plan by our coach; we were not aggressive and creative in the middle of the park. How can he be so defensive while playing a team like Algeria? Khoza played well, but we had many defenders. Iyooo, poor tactics - Mangi Phiri

    Scandal

Hahaha, what a scandal! Algeria brought their best local league players… and still couldn’t beat South Africa’s C team made of unknown bench players - Said Dabel

    SA must reach semis

If they don't go through to the semifinals, then they must forget to get teams. They will stay the rest of the year without clubs - Thabo Tbo-touch Sonakile

  • Can do better

Johannes and (Wayde) Jooste offered nothing; it was a very poor performance from them, and Ndlodlo needs to stick to the basics so that he and Maema can boss that middle park. Khoza played well in transition moments and in controlling the pace of the game. We can do better in the next match - Kuhle Jesse
