South Africa started their African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a 1-1 draw against Algeria in a Group C game held at Kampala's Mandela National Stadium on Friday.
Algeria had already started their campaign with a 3-0 win over Uganda and, on paper, looked favourites to beat Bafana Bafana's makeshift squad. While the North Africans brought to CHAN top players from Ligue 1, most of the squad members for South Africa are free agents or fringe players at their clubs.
Algeria scored the opener through Abdennour Belhocini, just before the break, before Thabiso Kutumela equalised.
After the draw, GOAL takes a look at how the fans reacted, with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki guiding his charges to a hard-fought draw, with Mamelodi Sundowns' Malibongwe Khoza impressing.
