  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Hatters captain went down off the ball and required immediate medical assistance at the Vitality Stadium – with it later revealed that he suffered cardiac arrest. With players from both sides removed from the field, the decision was taken to abandon the contest with 65 minutes on the clock.

    The match in question was tied up at 1-1 when the call was made not to continue – with players, coaches and supporters offering their best wishes to Lockyer as he was taken to hospital in “stable” condition. Referee Simon Hooper waved the match off.

    Premier League Rule L15 dictates that any game abandoned with the consent of the match officials will be replayed in full – rather than picking up where the previous fixture left off – with a new date and kick-off time set to be arranged, as reported by the Daily Mail.

    This is the second time in the space of 12 months that Lockyer has collapsed on the field, with the 29-year-old Wales international undergoing heart surgery after crumpling to the turf during Luton’s Championship play-off final win over Coventry.
