    WHAT HAPPENED?

A possible scenario of a looming battle between relegated Cape Town Spurs and Premier Soccer League sides Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu could come in the open soon.

Cape Town Spurs have threatened three players linked with Amakhosi and Usuthu with legal moves after failing to report to training.

    WHAT IS MORE

According to SABC Sports, Asanele Velebayi, Liam Bern, and Luke Baartman have been ordered to honour their contracts amid speculation they are set for PSL moves.

The national broadcaster cites a letter sent to the three players who have been told they remain Cape Town Spurs' players until their contracts end or are terminated.

    WHAT THE LETTER SAID

“The employment contract concluded between Spurs and yourself remains valid and binding, and you will accordingly remain employed by Spurs until your employment contract comes to an end or a mutual agreement is reached between Spurs and yourself to terminate your employment contract at an earlier date,” reads the letter in part as reported by SABC Sports

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Given that Cape Town Spurs suffered relegation from the National First Division to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season, the players will naturally prefer moves that will keep them in the top tier.

According to NSL rules, the players could move as free agents given the status of the club.

Velebayi and Baartman have been linked with Chiefs, while Bern is said to be on his way to AmaZulu.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?

The club can decide to proceed with disciplinary action against the players in question, and should Chiefs and AmaZulu sign them, they may as well find themselves in the middle of a legal battle.

Chiefs have been unveiling their new signings, and it is understood they are not done yet. More are set to be revealed in the coming days.
