Linda Mntambo adamant Sekhukhune United can do the unthinkable by beating Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates & Co. to PSL title - 'If Leicester City could do it, we do stand a chance'

Sekhukhune United have been a force to reckon with in the Premier Soccer League despite their limited resources.

In the last two seasons, Babina Noko have finished fourth on the PSL log; they were part of the teams that played in the Caf Confederation Cup in the 2024/25 season.

It is a massive improvement for a team that had initially struggled to make the top half at the end of the previous editions.

Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating Mzansi for the last decade, winning nine out of the possible 10 PSL crowns.

In the last three seasons, Orlando Pirates have finished behind Masandawana, with the former making some impressive signings in the ongoing transfer window.

Nevertheless, former Bucs attacker Linda Mntambo believes Sekhukhune United can defy the odds and win the league like Leicester City did in the 2015/16 season.

“We aim to improve upon our performance from last season," the 36-year-old said as quoted by FARPost.

"[Although we finished fourth in the last two seasons], I think last season we got more points, more wins and more clean sheets.

“We’ve improved from the previous season, and this season we want to go above that.

So, we want to make sure … hopefully a position three or two. And you may never know. If Leicester could do it, we do stand a chance," Mntambo concluded.

Despite his advancing age, Mntambo has been a key player for Babina Noko, always inspiring the other players to give their best.

It is interesting to see whether he can really inspire the team to go all the way and win a league title.

However, given the strength of of Sundowns squad and the newly beefed up Pirates, it is difficult to see how any of the PSL's teams will be able to break into the Top Two in the season ahead.
