'Let him go!' Kaizer Chiefs given ultimatum over 'one of the best goalkeepers in Africa' by former general director at Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

    'Let him go'

Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has challenged Kaizer Chiefs to let Fiacre Ntwari leave if the Premier Soccer League heavyweights cannot guarantee him enough playtime.

Amrouche, a former general director at Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, believes his goalkeeper is one of the best on the continent and does not understand why he struggles for playtime.

'One of the best in Africa'

“I had a good discussion with Ilyes [Mzoughi], the [goalkeeper] coach of Kaizer Chiefs. I cannot interfere in the work of the coaches, but it was just communication to see how we can keep Fiacre in good shape and also at that level of competition,” Amrouche told the media.

“It’s not easy, and I am happy to have that collaboration with the coaches everywhere, especially with the coaches for Kaizer Chiefs. Fiacre is one of the best goalkeepers in Africa," he added.

“I’ve never heard anything negative about his club from him. He loves his club. He has very good contact with his team, and also, his teammates love him. I’m happy he found me in the team because I gave him all that confidence, and the team gave him all that confidence to be number one in the team.”

"But I think if you don’t let him play, let him go because it’s better not to stop the quality for one person like Fiacre.”

    Ntwari unchallenged at Amavubi

Although Ntwari is not the Chiefs' first-choice goalkeeper, especially in the PSL and CAF Confederation Cup games, he has been maintained as Rwanda's number one keeper.

Brandon Petersen and sometimes Bruce Bvuma have always been preferred to Ntwari, who was signed with the hope of replacing club legend Itumeleng Khune. However, he has failed to stamp authority as a first choice at the club, as he has fallen down the pecking order since he arrived from TS Galaxy.

His only start this season was in the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 game, where he kept a clean sheet, but Amakhosi lost in the penalty shootout against Stellenbosch. Although he had a solid performance, all that was overshadowed when he refused to come out and allow Bvuma to take charge during the shootouts.

    Can Ntwari stop Bafana?

After the storm he created by refusing to be substituted, Ntwari is currently with Amavubi, who are set to face Bafana Bafana on Tuesday in a World Cup qualifier.

As South Africa will be looking for vital points, Ntwari's performance will be closely monitored because his performance could deny the hosts what they want from the game.
