    WHAT HAPPENED?

After his departure from Saudi outfit Abha following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, Pitso Mosimane did not immediately get another team to coach.

Late in October, Esteghlal came for his services owing to a poor start to the ongoing campaigns.

The Capital Blues believed 'Jingles' would help them get back their winning touch.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mosimane did not have a smooth start to life in the Persian Gulf Pro League and other high-profile competitions like the AFC Champions League.

The fans were not content with what Mosimane was giving them. They felt it was a raw deal, and that he couldn't deliver as expected.

The club's failure to pay him on time and refusal to sign players he had requested led to his exit from Iran.

However, Esteghlal legend Hassan Rowshan doesn't believe the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach had what it takes to deliver.

    WHAT ROWSHAN SAID

"I have said it many times and I will say it again; Esteghlal Club made a mistake in changing Javad Nekounam and should have given him a chance to lead the team he built and claimed he could make champions until the end of the season, so we can see who was right!" he told Mizan Online.

"Now, if they change Sohrab, they will be making a mistake because the story of this African coach will be repeated again. There is no high-level foreign coach in the middle of the season because a good coach is not unemployed, and if they choose another coach in a hurry, he will come like Pitso Mosimane and go looking for money and complaints, and in the end, nothing will come to this team.

"Our football has become so miserable that an African coach comes to our football and leaves easily. From the very beginning, I emphasised that we should not praise someone too quickly and make idols of them," Rowshan concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Since his exit from Al Ahli Jeddah, Mosimane hasn't found a stable team to coach from the start to the end of the season.

The 60-year-old has struggled at Al Wahda, Abha, and most recently Esteghlal.

He should be looking to get a stable team to coach and prove his doubters wrong by delivering at the highest level consistently.
