    WHAT HAPPENED?

Khanyisa Mayo joined Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad in the summer transfer window.

Initially, he had problems settling and it affected his productivity, especially on the pitch.

He went eight games without scoring goals, something that affected his confidence as well.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mayo came on as a substitute in the first Caf Champions League meeting with Orlando Pirates on November 26, and scored as his team went down 2-1.

Since then, he has scored two more goals in six games, something that has given him the much-needed confidence.

The former Cape Town City forward is now getting regular playing time for his club.

However, he is not yet done as he has his sights set on a Bafana Bafana return.

    WHAT MAYO SAID

“For me, it’s been a journey I have enjoyed, as a footballer you have to live for moments like this, to enjoy it each and every time you get an opportunity [to play]," he told the media.

"So, I think with the Bafana, I have been putting myself out there, raising my hand, knocking on the door.

"I have been asking questions to get back into the team, we will see what happens because it’s a long journey, the season is still long but God willing, things will happen according to my plan," Mayo concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Getting a slot at Bafana currently is not a child's play owing to quality and competition in the attacking department.

However, to have a chance, Mayo has to score regularly for Belouizdad to convince Hugo Broos that he is ready to lead the Bafana line.
