    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Kaizer Chiefs' attacking department has recently struggled to make a desired impact.

To address the issue, the technical team and the Amakhosi management signed established forwards for the club.

Etiosa Ighodaro, who has yet to make his debut for the club, Flavio Silva, and Khanyisa Mayo are the new players who have joined the Soweto giants.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Flavio Silva has since made four appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring two goals.

His counterpart, Mayo, was impressive in the 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants in the Premier Soccer League game played on Wednesday, but was subbed after an hour, much to the surprise of the fans at the FNB Stadium.

Club's assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has now explained why the 27-year-old did not finish the game.

    WHAT BEN YOUSSEF SAID

“For Khanyisa Mayo, we were waiting for his papers and now he’s available to play in the PSL, but we know that physically he’s not yet ready for a full 90 minutes," the assistant coach told the media.

"It was prepared before the [Gallants] game, he will do 50-60 minutes.

“I think the performance of Mayo, [on his debut], he did very well, he performed very well, he 'created' many opportunities, and he scored the first goal.

"We need more from Mayo, we know his quality, we know what he can do for the team and what he can bring to this team," Ben Youssef concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mayo is expected to make his CAF Confederation Cup debut on Saturday when Chiefs host Angolan outfit Kabuscorp in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the annual competition.

Amakhosi are trailing after a 1-0 loss, meaning they have no option but to score at home this weekend.
