    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs gave Nasreddine Nabi a free hand in choosing his technical team in his bid to revive the Soweto giants.

He has since brought in Fernando Da Cruz and Khalil Ben Youssef as his assistant coaches. Ilyes Mzoughi is the goalkeepers' trainer with Safi Majdi coming in as a strength and conditioning coach.

So far, nothing has been communicated about the role Dillon Sheppard will be playing. Former Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs argues the club may end up paying the price in the future.

    WHAT ISAACS SAID

"They are great coaches, but my opinion is when that coach leaves, he leaves with his whole technical team," he told Far Post.

"I don’t see anyone from the Chiefs development structures or someone working with the coaches in the long term who has been at Chiefs for a while and knows the club.

"Look at Carlos Alberto Perreira; he worked with Pitso [Mosimane]. Pitso learnt a lot from Perreira. That’s my opinion; I would have loved to see someone there from the Chiefs structures that would learn from these experienced coaches. But, I don’t know, maybe they are doing that with someone like David Mathebula, who is in the development of Chiefs," Isaacs continued.

"As it stands on paper, there is no South African or Chiefs coach; Nabi will leave with his entire technical team, and none of the local Chiefs coaches will gain any knowledge from them."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Chiefs management is desperate to see Amakhosi get back to the top in South African football after their frustrating 2023/24 campaign.

Finishing 10th in the Premier Soccer League was not only embarrassing, but it raised serious questions about the team's ambitions.

It explains why the club might have opted to give Nabi everything he asked for to help bring Chiefs back on course.
