    WHAT HAPPENED?

Thembinkosi Lorch was a shock signing for Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2023/24 January transfer window.

He was signed by the then-head coach Rhulani Mokwena who believed the former Orlando Pirates man will add quality to his team.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lorch has not had it easy at Masandawana owing to injuries and stiff competition.

As a matter of fact, the 31-year-old has made seven appearances for Sundowns across all competitions - this season, with returns of a goal and an assist.

It explains why there have been rumours that Kaizer Chiefs are keen on having him.

However, according to Amakhosi's former star Lifa Gqosha, that is not the player Nasreddine Nabi should consider.

    WHAT GQOSHA SAID

"Are we becoming a retirement village? It feels like we are turning into an old age home," the former Dynamos coach told KickOff.

"Is it possible to build a team with players who are 30 years old and above? I understand the need for experience, but are they not satisfied with the experienced players they already have?

"When building a team, you must invest in youngsters. I'm not questioning Lorch's abilities, but at his age, how long can he maintain his form?" he asked.

"As a player myself, I would take advantage of such opportunities because it is a chance to earn money. Yet, at the same time, there may be a strong desire to play and prove critics wrong, which complicates the situation.

"Ultimately, I don't believe that such a signing would help solve Kaizer Chiefs' problems. For me, it's a definite 'no'," Gqosha concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

On Monday, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the signing of three experienced players, among them winger Glody Lilepo and forward Tashreeq Morris.

It is interesting to see whether Amakhosi will make a deadline swoop of the talented Lorch to further bolster their squad.
