Kaizer Chiefs suffer massive blow as in-form former Orlando Pirates star misses top-of-the-PSL-log Sekhukhune United showdown

The 25-year-old has been on arguably his best form in the last couple of weeks, helping Amakhosi to an excellent start to the new season. However, the club might miss him for a couple of games.

    Monyane, a gift to Chiefs from rivals Pirates

    Kaizer Chiefs signed Thabiso Monyane as a free agent from Orlando Pirates in the ongoing Transfer Window.

    The right-back came alongside Paseka Mako to strengthen the Amakhosi defence and bring much-needed CAF inter-club experience. 

    Monyane has played in every game in the Premier Soccer League, where Chiefs have won four outings while drawing one; they are yet to concede.

  • Chiefs suffer Monyane blow

    The right-back, who was part of the Bafana Bafana team that played Nigeria in Group C's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier that ended goalless, was expected to be in the team to play Sekhukhune United on Tuesday night at the FNB Stadium.

    However, he is conspicuously missing from the starting team that will play Babina Noko.

    GOAL has learnt the defender has been ruled out due to an injury, which the club has yet to specify.

    Reeve Frosler has since replaced the 25-year-old.

    What does this mean for Monyane?

    Apart from the top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday, Monyane might miss the CAF Confederation Cup assignment this weekend.

    Amakhosi are scheduled to play Angolan outfit Kabuscorp in the first preliminary round of the annual competition.

    The game will be played on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

    What next for Monyane?

    The former Pirates defender will hope to recover soonest ahead of the October international break.

    With Nyiko Mobbie and Zuko Mdunyelwa suffering injuries in the previous assignments for South Africa, the odds are favouring Monyane getting another call-up.
