    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have started the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season on a high, winning their opening two games in the South African top-tier.

The Glamour Boys defeated Stellenbosch 2-0 in their first game, before beating Polokwane City by a solitary goal.

Those results were not anticipated by the majority of their supporters owing to the struggles in the pre-season, where they won one game in seven outings.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amakhosi are among the four teams that have won their opening two games in the new campaign, but the Soweto giants are having a better goal difference.

The other teams that have secured maximum points are Durban City, Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have collected four, while Orlando Pirates have lost their two games.

However, that is not a reason to be overconfident, according to former Bafana Bafana international Bongani Khumalo.

    WHAT KHUMALO SAID

"[Chiefs' recent form] is very good, but it is important for the players to keep their feet on the ground," he said on his analysis on Extra Time.

"It is a very long season; it is not a cup competition, so as much as there is joy and there is ease in how they have started, there is still a lot of work to be done.

"The performance against Stellenbosch was not a great performance, but it was a wonderful result.

"[Against Polokwane City], the first half was not great, the second half was a lot better, so there are signs that something is brewing.

"It is important that they remain calm and most importantly, stick together and see it through," Khumalo concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Another massive hurdle for the Glamour Boys will be on Tuesday against Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium.

A win will further boost Amakhosi's confidence as they aim to secure a top position this season.
