Kaizer Chiefs player ratings vs AS Simba: Brandon Petersen stands tall, while Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi add late spark off the bench in CAF Confederation Cup stalemate

Kaizer Chiefs and AS Simba played out a tense 0-0 draw at Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday, 18 October. The first half was a midfield tug-of-war, full of sharp passing and defensive resilience. Chiefs looked composed in possession, while Simba pressed high, but neither side could carve out a clear chance before the break.

In the second half, Simba pushed harder for control, but Chiefs stayed compact and organised. Brandon Petersen led the defensive effort with a commanding display in goal, while Mfundo Vilakazi’s late cameo added urgency and attacking spark.

Showed flashes of impact but faded as the game wore on.

    Subs & Manager

    Thabo Cele (/610)

Added fresh legs, but didn’t shift much of the tempo of the game.

    Mduduzi Shabalala (6/10)

Tried to inject creativity and he created the best chance of the game, which saw Du Preez miss a sitter.

    Mfundo Vilakazi (6.5/10)

Showed promise late on, almost breaking the deadlock with a free-kick from distance, but Simba goalkeeper Dida Fatao was able to tip the effort over the crossbar. One of the brighter sparks off the bench.

    Ashley Du Preez (5.5/10)

The 28-year-old had a golden chance to tilt the tie in Chiefs’ favour after Vilakazi and Shabalala combined brilliantly to thread a through ball into space. But with the goal gaping, Du Preez failed to convert.

Khalil Ben Youssef & Cedric Kaze (6/10)

The coaching duo kept things tactically tight, but their decision to hold back Vilakazi until late may have cost Chiefs a spark in attack. An earlier introduction could’ve tilted the momentum.
