Kaizer ChiefsKaizer Chiefs new signings assessed after Vitesse loss - 'Ethan Chislett didn't impress me, Flavio Silva didn't look much different than what Amakhosi had in the past'
Kaizer ChiefsWHAT HAPPENED?
Former Kaizer Chiefs development coach Farouk Khan has assessed the club's new signings who featured against Vitesse in a pre-season match on Tuesday.
Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, and Nkanyiso Shinga were the new signings involved when the Glamour Boys lost 2-1 to the Dutch outfit.
Khan has now assessed them but cautioned that there is no need to pass judgement on these players solely on how they performed in the first game of pre-season.
Kaizer ChiefsWHAT KHAN SAID
"With Silva up front, he didn't look much different than what they had in the past, but it's early days. He was working very hard; he was running, he was pressing, and he could give a lot of energy up front. But whether he can score, we don't know because the best goal of the match was scored by (Reeve) Frosler," Khan told KickOff.
"Chislett didn't impress me. He looked like he was out of sorts. I suppose it's a different level now, coming from a lower league in England. Professional football is never easy," he added.
"Monyane didn't do too badly, but he was not tested, you know. We must remember they were also playing against a team that was recently relegated, so they are also trying to build. So, you can't read too much with this game."
"But out of the four new players that played, Shinga is the one who impressed me. Other than that, there is still a lot of work in progress at Kaizer Chiefs."
Kaizer ChiefsWHAT IS MORE
Despite the pre-season opening loss, Khan said there is not much to worry about with the defeat since the team is yet to gel together completely.
"Results are not important in pre-season. The team is going through periodisation so that they can peak at the right time when the league starts," Khan stated.
"You use such games to give youngsters like (Aden) McCarthy a chance. I like the fact that when they played Shinga in the second half, the boys looked like they could revive the left-back position."
Cedric Kaze/Kaizer ChiefsTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Nabi's headache before the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season begins is to make sure he integrates the new signings and, together with the older Glamour Boys, forms a competitive team.
After complaining that he did not have a lethal striker last season when Amakhosi struggled in the league, Nabi will find himself under more pressure should his signings flop.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi fans should be encouraged by the return of their top player, Reeve Frolser, who scored the opening goal of the game and showed a good level of fitness on his return.
Kaizer ChiefsWHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
Nabi is expected to give the new Glamour Boys more minutes in the remaining pre-season engagements.
Their next opponent will be Utrecht, whom they will play on July 11.
