    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs reserve team did well last season, winning the DStv Diski Challenge Champions.

It was the first time the club had won the competition in its 11-year history.

Many fans and a section of stakeholders must have anticipated the technical team to promote a good number to the senior team in the 2025/26 edition.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The club has promoted Aden McCarthy to the senior team this season after his impressive outing last season.

Before the transfer window concluded, the club further loaned Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane to Siwelele FC.

However, they still have the likes of former Cape Town Spurs duo Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi, while another youngster, Mfundo Vilakazi, is pushing for a regular spot at Amakhosi.

Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has explained why they would rather keep their youngsters as opposed to loaning them out.

    WHAT MOTAUNG JR SAID

"We have a very clear plan in terms of the younger players who came on board, and really impressed during pre-season," he told the media.
"It is sometimes better to retain your youngsters in the same environment, whilst they still get minutes in the DDC together with training with the first team.

"Sometimes this is a better strategy than loaning a player for the sake of loaning a player," Motaung Jr. concluded

    WHAT NEXT?

The club's technical team has no option but to identify players who can be promoted to the senior team, which will give them more depth.

However, just like Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala, and the likes, those players need to prove that they are worth donning the Black and Gold jersey.
