Nabi gone, Kaze & Ben Youssef at the helm

Kaizer Chiefs recently parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi and thrust Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Yousef to lead the team for the rest of the season.

The Tunisian-Belgian left the Soweto giants just over a year into his role at Naturena, and his departure appeared to have left Chiefs in a chaotic situation.

Football administrator Senzo Mbatha, who previously worked as the chief executive officer at Young Africans, Nabi's former club, has identified where he thinks Chiefs might have gone wrong with the coach.

    What Chiefs should have done

"I just believe he needed a local person who understood the club better and somebody who can be his confidant in terms of understanding the team," said Mbatha as per Soccer Laduma.
"We've listened and heard some mumbles around him losing the dressing room or maybe players not understanding him. I cannot confirm those because we are not part of the team and we don't know what's happening at the club.
"I just believe he needed that type of support for him to be able to do well. It was tough. Kaizer Chiefs are a big brand," he added.
"You find it difficult to stay in that club if you don't bring results, but I just believe had he received that type of support, things could have been better."

Chiefs' decision on Kaze and Ben Youssef under scrutiny

Chiefs will be hoping they made the correct decision to have Kaze and Ben Youssef continue in place of Nabi, and fans would also scrutinise that move by the club.

The two continue working without a local assistant to help them on the bench, something Mbatha says Nabi should have done.

The two coaches would also want to impress their bosses at Naturena to be handed the mandate to continue at the helm beyond this season.

    What comes next?

Besides leading Chiefs on the domestic scene, Kaze and Ben Ypussef also have continental responsibilities.

They are in the DR Congo with Chiefs for Saturday's CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, first leg match against AS Simba.

Helping WAmakhosi reach the group stage of the continental competition would help in winning the confidence of Amakhosi fans in them.
