    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs began their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to Vitesse Arnhem on Tuesday at Sportpark Driel, Driel.

Chiefs were lively from the beginning and could have grabbed the opening goal in the 20th minute only for Mduduzi Shabalala to be denied by Vitesse's goalkeeper.

In the 37th minute, though, Chiefs' determination was rewarded with an opener when Reeve Frosler scored from a long-range effort.

However, Amakhosi were pegged back by the Eerste Divisie outfit when Dillon Solomons scored an own goal in the 47th minute.

Vitesse then registered the winning goal in the 74th minute when Andy Visser found the back of the net.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Although they lost, Amakhosi fans should be happy with the return of their injured players, who showed a high level of fitness and sharpness. Frosler started and scored despite the fact that he was sidelined for a long period.

Inacio Miguel was also involved, and he captained the side as he tried hard to get the needed fitness before the season began.

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi also started two of his new signings, Thabiso Monyane and Flavio Da Silva, which points to the likelihood of the new recruits getting integrated into the team as soon as possible.
