    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mofokeng is just in the early stage of his career but is already making headlines owing to his maturity on the pitch as well as the impact he has made.

In the game against AmaZulu, the winger provided two assists from which Mohau Nkota scored. Mofokeng has played 13 games across all competitions and managed three goals with five assists.

He has been included in the Bafana Bafana squad for the forthcoming international assignments; however, Doctor Khumalo was not happy with the officials in the last game.

The Amakhosi legend insists they didn't protect the future of Mzansi football.

    WHAT DR. KHUMALO SAID

"Another bad weekend, another very bad weekend where we nearly lost a promising young player that we South Africans are proud of, and the officials couldn’t like protect players," the 57-year-old told Soccer Zone.

"We are not talking about Mofokeng only but we’re taking about players that are promising that we ourselves as a country pride ourselves in to say it’s a guaranteed 10-year-old [long] player for us. That is gruesome. I’ve gone through that. It’s an ick because now you’re going to be scared.

"Those tackles are not tackles of football. You can’t go over and then on top of that you pride yourself to say that ‘I’ll show you s**t’! But what do you gain?"

  • WHAT NEXT?

Kaizer Chiefs' Edson Castillo has been ruled out at least until next year after another challenge by Bilal Baloyi of SuperSport United.

The officials should be keen to ensure the players are protected and their careers are not put in jeopardy by reckless challenges.
