Kaizer Chiefs legend claims injured Khanyisa Mayo 'won't be missed that much' against AS Simba in CAF Confederation Cup but fails to understand why Luke Baartman 'is sitting in the stands'

  • Defining moment for Chiefs in CAF competition

Kaizer Chiefs host AS Simba on Saturday in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup inter-club competition to be played at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Following a goalless draw in the initial meeting, the Glamour Boys, who have a slight advantage since they will be at home, need a win just like their opponents to advance.

    Injury concerns for Chiefs

The Soweto giants will have to do without the injured Paseka Mako, Khanyisa Mayo, who suffered a hamstring injury in the recent Premier Soccer League game against Siwelele, as well as Inacio Miguel.

Ethan Chislett, Given Msimango, and Flavio Silva are back in training and might be considered alongside Thabiso Monyane, who has recovered after missing about two months of action.

In the last three games across all competitions, Amakhosi haven't scored a goal. Despite the absence of Mayo, who has been leading the striking department, club legend Derrick Spencer believes other players can do the job.

He also questioned the availability of some players who he feels can make an impact for Chiefs.

Mayo won't be missed but where is Baartman and Chislett?

"We might go into Sunday's game without Khanyisa Mayo, but since he has just joined the team, I don't think he will be missed that much. We have many good strikers eager for an opportunity,” he told the media.

"Godspower Ighodaro looks promising up front. I also don't understand why Luke Baartman is sitting in the stands.

"Is that case with Cape Town Spurs still ongoing?

“And what about Ethan Chislett? Will we ever see him play? From what I hear, he is a star," Spencer concluded.

    Why is Simba game crucial?

A win for Amakhosi will reduce the pressure against the players and the technical team, especially in the local scene, where they have gone six games across all competitions without a win.

Victory will further boost the players' confidence ahead of the forthcoming assignments.
