    WHAT HAPPENED?

Pedro Gonçalves has left Kaizer Chiefs defender Inácio Miguel out of Angola’s squad for the Cosafa Cup in South Africa. Angola will be defending their title and have called up Gilberto, who is on loan at Petro de Luanda from Orlando Pirates.

Gilberto had minimal impact during his stint with the Buccaneers and returned home for game time. Meanwhile, Inácio had a solid season at Amakhosi, helping them lift the Nedbank Cup. His omission comes as a surprise to many who felt his form deserved recognition.

Gonçalves appears to have opted for players he believes better fit his tactical setup. Inácio will now shift his focus to helping Chiefs in their final league match.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coach Gonçalves is taking the Cosafa Cup seriously, assembling a strong squad to build momentum ahead of Angola’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers. With limited time to prepare, the tournament offers a perfect test for Angola's core group.

Gilberto brings international experience and familiarity with the national setup. For Inácio, it’s a missed opportunity, but he remains hopeful of future call-ups. His immediate focus is on helping Kaizer Chiefs secure a top-eight finish in the PSL.
