    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs hosted Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-final at the FNB Stadium.

Masandawana claimed a huge 4-0 to advance and have since made it to the final where they will play surprise package Magesi.

A section of Amakhosi faithful engaged in hooliganism and the club will have to pay the price as confirmed by the Premier Soccer League prosecutor Zola Majavu.

    WHAT MAJAVU SAID

"Kaizer Chiefs, pleaded guilty as charged... [and they have been] fined a monetary amount of R200,000 of which have been suspended for the next 12 months, on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence again," he said during the ruling.

"You will also note that three weeks or so ago, Kaizer Chiefs appeared before the PSL DC on exactly the same charges. They will be fined a monetary amount of R100,000 of which R50,000 was suspended.

"It means Kaizer Chiefs will pay R150,000, plus the cost of the sitting, which are administratively computed by the league and added on to the R150,000," Majavu added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last season, the Glamour Boys were charged four times following crowd troubles and ended up paying hundreds of thousands in fines.

A couple of days ago, Orlando Pirates were charged with a similar offence, a trend that Majavu now says is a concern.

"This type of misbehavior, especially by those who claim to love and support their clubs, does not augur well for the development of a product that should easily be consumed without difficulties and unpalatable behavior," he continued.

"The DC directed that this particular issue be revisited in a manner that will ensure that we think out of the box, and the sanctions are such that they also assist in stemming this particular tide. But until that happens, unfortunately, we are creatures of the statutes which govern us, and we are enjoined and duty bound to implement the ruling as it currently stands. That is the position at the moment," Majavu concluded.

Chiefs promised to work with respective authorities to end the vice that might end up hurting the otherwise beautiful product.

It is interesting to see how PSL at large will deal with the problem and ensure it does not extend to other teams.
