    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs fell by a solitary goal against Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League fixture staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

After the game, the furious Nasreddine Nabi confronted referee Olani Kwinda for what he felt was insufficient added minutes.

According to assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef, Nabi argued there were many stoppages, meaning three added minutes were insufficient.

The Tunisian was then shown a straight red card by the referee.

    WHAT YOUSSEF SAID

“Normally in football, if you make a substitution, every substitution is 30 seconds; so I give you a question, how many substitutions were there in the second half? They make five substitutions and we make three substitutions. So if you count how many times makes that," he told the media.

“The issue with the red card is, [Nabi] went to the referee and said ‘how we make so many substitutions. That’s the strategy of Golden Arrows, they try to win time, every challenge they go down and you give only three minutes injury-time. You have to give five minutes.

“We’ve played now 12 games, always five minutes or more than five minutes for extra time. If you give three minutes and then you allow them to take time, you don’t give them a yellow card [for time-wasting].

“We feel like, he tried to help the opposition team. I know it’s not a good situation for us, but I don’t want to talk [more] about the referee," Youssef concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The frustration in the Kaizer Chiefs team is obvious since the results are not coming consistently.

Amakhosi have now lost two Premier Soccer League games from the three played in the new year.

It might be a new year but the same old problems for the Glamour Boys persist, underlining the need to address the issues.

It is also worth noting that Chiefs have kept only a single clean sheet in the 13 PSL games played.

    WHAT NEXT?

More than two weeks have elapsed since the winter transfer window was opened.

The Glamour Boys have not yet made any signings which is not what the fans anticipated.

Nabi needs a new striker to help him take the chances created.
