    WHAT HAPPENED?

On Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs beat Chippa United 3-0 to seal their place in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final and return a record of six games across all competitions without defeat.

The fans were, however, shocked on Tuesday night when their team fell 4-1 against SuperSport United in a Premier Soccer League outing.

It was not what they had expected and coach Nasreddine Nabi has since defended his players for their lacklustre performance.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"So now I want to speak to the fans because I'm not someone who runs away from responsibility," the former AS FAR Rabat coach stated.

"I want to take this time to explain to them the situation and not necessarily to make excuses.

“This kind of accident happens in all championships and it can even happen that the score is higher than what we've seen today. It's not possible to be a good team three days earlier and then three days after you are a weak team, it's not possible.

“As I said, we cannot always give excuses but I'm very understanding when it comes to my players and today I understood that they gave their best like in the previous games and they were tired.

“So, that's the reason why I would ask you [the media] to be indulgent with the players as you have done it in the happy times, do it also in the difficult times," Nabi concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It was the first time the Glamour Boys have lost to SuperSport United by such a margin.

The huge loss might work against Chiefs' confidence ahead of the crucial fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on March 1.

The Glamour Boys should work on their consistency in the Premier Soccer League to stand a chance of finishing inside the top three positions to get a Caf competitions slot.

    WHAT NEXT?

The Glamour Boys have two weeks to collect themselves before playing Sundowns.

It will be the third time the Soweto giants will be playing against Masandawana this season across all competitions.

They fell 2-1 in the Premier Soccer League before a humiliating 4-0 defeat in the Carling Knockout quarter-final.

It will be interesting to see how they will respond in the next meeting.
