    WHAT HAPPENED?

Coach Nasreddine Nabi hopes to help Kaizer Chiefs end their decade-long trophy drought this Saturday when they play rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

It will be a massive game for Bucs coach Jose Riveiro too, who will want to win his last trophy with the club before leaving.

For Amakhosi, a win will be a sigh of relief after yet another disappointing season, especially in the Premier Soccer League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Riveiro has won his last five Soweto derbies against Kaizer Chiefs across all competitions.

The most recent was last weekend when he won 2-1 in the Premier Soccer League, which was Nabi's second in Mzansi.

Stakes are high ahead of the sold-out Nedbank Cup final, explaining why Nabi has warned his players against making costly mistakes.

He argues the opponents might get a slim advantage and defend it to the final whistle.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“It’s true it’s my [fifth] consecutive cup final [as a coach], many people say final it’s not to be played, it’s to be won, that’s why it’s important to insist on efficiency of the team in both ways, defensively and offensively,” he told iDiski Times.

“Tactically you have to work and try to maximise every initiative you have during the game, either offensively or defensively, and you have to take into consideration the opponent, but there’s also psychological work that needs to be done, especially after losing the derby and going to the final against the same opponent.

“The players feel they did well to deserve more from the Derby, especially the first half, but other than tactical work, there’s a lot of physiological work needed to be better going into this final," Nabi continued.

“As well as how we see it, for efficiency, you need to reduce, as much as you can, the mistakes, the individual mistakes that can happen in a final game, when you make mistakes, it’s hard to come back from it, because everyone knows the cup is there and if you concede one goal, someone can park the bus,” he said.

“So, it will be very hard, so it’s very important to stay concentrated, stay focused for the game and try to make as least mistakes as we can," Nabi concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Pirates secured the MTN8 trophy early in the season, becoming the first team to win the competition three times in a row.

On Saturday, they will be aiming to defeat Amakhosi to win, not only the bragging rights, but a Nedbank Cup threepeat as well.

It explains why there has been such a massive demand for tickets to the match that it crashed the ticketing system which then over sold 10,000 tickets.
