Mthethwa turning himself into a key Chiefs player

Sibongiseni Mthethwa has turned himself into a regular central midfielder at Kaizer Chiefs, commanding a starting spot on matchdays.

The 31-year-old has featured in nine games for Amakhosi this season, earning himself the trust of the assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

With Mthethwa under scrutiny to establish if he is the man Chiefs were looking for to take charge of their midfield, Ben Youssef shares his thoughts on the player.

Ben Youssef speaks glowingly about Ox

“Ox has a big mindset, always working [hard] and serious in training, we have tried to analyse with him, every training, every game, individual meetings, to explain to him what he needed to correct,” Ben Youssef said as per iDiski Times.
“To become better in his performances, he’s worked a lot and he’s helping us, giving us defensive stability, also he’s the only player to play every game 90 minutes, so he’s one of the key players for us now.”

    Chiefs' situation in central midfield

With Mthethwa a regular starter this season and lasting the entire 90 minutes in most of Chiefs' matches, that has seen Thabo Cele struggling to be the most favoured player in central midfield.

That makes Chiefs appear strong in the engine room, where they also have Siphesihle Ndlovu as another capable player.

The Soweto giants even had the luxury to loan out central midfielder Samkelo Zwane to Siwelele FC.

    Big test awaits

A big test awaits Chiefs on Sunday when they visit Stellenbosch for the Carling Knockout Round of 16 match.

If given a chance to play, it is a match in which Mthethwa would want to prove that he can help Chiefs lift their first piece of silverware of the season.
