    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs central defender Aden McCathy was taken out of last week's Premier Soccer League clash with Richards Bay due to injury.

He joins other centre-backs, Given Msimango and Rushwin Dortley, who are out injured.

Left-backs Bradley Cross and Nkanyiso Shinga are "sick," according to Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze.

New signing Etiosa Ighodaro was injured during training, which could delay his Chiefs debut.

This comes as the Soweto giants prepare to face Mamelodi Sundowns in a league game on Wednesday.

    WHAT KAZE SAID

“About Aden, he hasn’t been training since that day. The medical staff are working hard to put him back on the field, but we will have to wait and see how he does tomorrow to decide whether he will be part of the game or not,” said Kaze as per iDiski Times.

“We have Shinga and Cross who have been sick the last few days. Ighodaro was also injured at training two days ago.

“But apart from that, everyone is well and ready for the game. Those are injuries that have been for a long time," added the Burundan.

“Msimango is doing better, but it’s not players that we believe will be with us at least this month, probably Msimango next month and Dortley also later next month.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

If McCarthy fails to recover for the Sundowns match, it would be a big blow for Amakhosi as the 21-year-old has already won two Man of the Match awards in the three PSL games Chiefs have played this season.

It is also a significant blow, considering that other centre-backs, Dortley and Msimango, are still out nursing injuries.

Nabi would have Zitha Kwinika to partner Inacio Miguel in central defence should McCarthy fail to regain full fitness.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Chiefs are enjoying a bright start to their season after winning all three PSL games they have played so far.

They would hope that the fitness issues in their camp would have little impact on how they perform against Masandawana.
