    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs maintained their promising start to the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season with a hard-fought 1-0 midweek victory over Polokwane City, thanks to a decisive strike from new signing Siphesihle Ndlovu. The midfielder’s match-winning goal not only earned Amakhosi three valuable points but also further cemented their growing confidence. This win followed their commanding 2-0 triumph over Stellenbosch in the season’s opening fixture, a result that set the tone for their early momentum.

However, despite the encouraging back-to-back victories, Chiefs have been urged to remain grounded. Former Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo has cautioned the Soweto giants against getting carried away too soon, reminding them that consistency over the long haul is what will truly define their campaign.

    WHAT KHUMALO SAID?

"It is very good (Chiefs' recent form), but it is important for the players to keep their feet on the ground," Khumalo said on SuperSportTV's ExtraTime.

"It is a very long season; it is not a cup competition. So as much as there is joy and there is ease in how they have started, there is still a lot of work to be done. The performance against Stellenbosch was not a great performance, but it was a wonderful result.

"This time [against Polokwane City], the first half was not great, the second half was a lot better.

"So there are signs that something is brewing, so it is important that they remain calm and most importantly, stick together and see it through,” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amakhosi currently sit second on the PSL standings, level on six points with early leaders Durban City.

The Glamour Boys find themselves above defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, who remain winless after their first two league outings under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
